A Study on the Evaluation of High School Health in Seoul City

Abstract
|
|
|
The study was conducted for the evaluation of the school health service status of 135 high schools in Seoul city during the period of March to September 1973. The study was aimed ultimately at the promotion of public health as the health education for high school students is considered helpful and contributes greatly to the promotion of public health. The survey carried out the following conclusions:
1. In the girls high schools, 54 percent of nurse teachers were giving lectures in addition to their nursing activities.
2. The health service equipment in the high schools on which the survey was conducted was excellent in the following order: boys public, girls public, boys private, girls private. The equipment of physical control in the private school were better than those in the public school.
3. The average financial expenditure per head of high school in Seoul for the health service was 135 won for one year.
4. It is the opinion of the surveyor that qualified nurse teachers are assigned repectively to primary school, middle school and high school in view of the different methods of health service and degree of education.
5. some 63 percent of the nurse teachers were personally giving shots, and some of them with out consulting physicians.
6. Adequate toilet facilities were not available for the students. To solve this problem, it is suggested that school building constructors coordinate with the public health authorities before designing school buildings.
7. Especially in the high schools, health education classes should be given regular class hours for pormotion of public health.
8. It is necessary to give the nurse teachers a short-course training on school health service during the vacation. It will be very helpful to them.
